11 Months Old Milestones

Eleven months old….what??? I just can’t believe it but ready or not, here it comes! Let’s take a look at what to expect in the eleventh month of life.

  • Understands “no,” briefly stops when told “no”
  • Responds to simple requests and directions (give mommy the ball)
  • Responds to name when called
  • Understands words for common items (ball, shoe, dog)
  • Uses common objects appropriately
  • Uses sound approximations
  • Babbling turns into meaningful words
  • May produce one to three words (nouns)
  • Imitates adult speech sounds
  • Uses gestures
  • Shows moods
  • Demonstrates dislike for food
  • Freely pulls self up to stand independently
  • Stands with support
  • Stands momentarily without support
  • Develops controlled pincer grasp
  • Imitates actions and facial expressions
  • Has poor aim and timing of release when throwing
  • Rolls wheeled toys and may pair with sounds
  • Cooperates in dressing/undressing
  • Drinks from covered cup independently

Recommended toys at 11 months old: balls, containers (put things in/out), bath toys, toys that have switches, dials, slides, board books, busy box
