Offer Babies Book Choices

Offer baby book choices!

Allowing babies to choose the book they would like to read encourages the use of gestures, which develops communication skills. Simply show babies two books and read them the one they show interest in. Giving babies choices helps develop focus, preferences, problem solving skills and independence. It also allows babies to communicate their wants, all the while the caregiver is ultimately in control. Score team parents! Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

(Fisher chose Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Al Perkins. It’s one of his faves!)

Cheers,

Molly

  1. What a great piece of advice. We’ve read to our boys since their days in the womb. We still give them choices. 5 and 9 years later. Also, I like how you read with him in your lap. They pick up the left to right faster πŸ™‚
