Making Baby Food: Beets

Beets are messy to make and smell like dirt but my son loves them! They are nutritious with vitamin A, calcium, potassium, and fiber. They also add a nice pop of color to baby’s diet, so bring on the beets!

Beet Puree:

  1. Wash and peel
  2. Cut into chunks
  3. Steam in baby food processor using recommended amount of water until tender
  4. Pour out the cooking water
  5. Pour in 2-4 oz breast milk or formula (more or less to obtained desired texture)
  6. Puree to desired texture
  7. Pour into freezer trays
  8. Freeze, unthaw and serve as needed

*Fyi…Beets may make baby’s poop reddish colored, this scared me at first but I figured it’s the same as spinach turning it crazy green #momlife.

I used a pack of 4 beets that cost $1.69. It made 9 baby food pods. That’s $0.19 a food pod. Not bad for a healthy nutritious meal! I like to serve beets with green beans, peas, butternut squash, sweet potato or brussel sprouts. Give it a try, let me know what your little thinks!

Cheers,

Molly
