Making baby food: Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are on the list of favorites for my baby. They are a bit time consuming to make but yield a lot so you don’t have to make them often. They make a very smooth puree and taste like a dessert so are a great first baby food. They mix well with other foods and are good to serve with foods baby may be skeptical about. They help me to get spinach in my baby. Here’s how I make them:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Rinse and prick potatoes
  3. Wrap in aluminum foil and place on baking sheet
  4. Bake for 30-60 minutes at 400 degrees or until soft
  5. Potatoes will be very hot, open the aluminum foil and let cool
  6. Cut potatoes in half and scoop out the flesh
  7. Puree in food processor using breastmilk or formula, it takes a good amount of liquid to make a smooth, creamy puree. I used 4 ounces for 2 potatoes.
  8. Spoon into freezer trays
  9. Label with contents and date and freeze
  10. Store in freezer container
