7 Months Old Milestones

Babies start to get really silly at seven months old and soon will no longer be content sitting in one place. Once babies are sitting up, their viewpoint greatly expands and their curiosity explodes! Get ready parents, a mobile baby is a whole different ballgame! Let’s take a look at what to expect around seven months of age.

  • Begins to understand no
  • Understands and responds to own name
  • Listens when spoken to
  • Starts to understand some words for common items
  • Vocalizes when excited and during play
  • Expresses affection
  • Uses a large variety of sounds including consonants /t, n, d/
  • Babbles using groups of sounds
  • Uses speech sounds rather than only crying to gain attention
  • Removes food from spoon by closing lips around it
  • Holds bottle
  • Uses arms to move forward on belly, scoots, may move backwards, shows interest in moving
  • Moves from back to sitting without assistance
  • May sit without support
  • Manipulates objects by dropping, banging, mouthing, moving between hands
  • May start to develop pincer grasp

Recommended toys for 7 month olds: board/bath books, blocks, textured objects that baby can grasp, stacking toys, musical toys/instruments, light-up toys, teething toys, Jumperoo/Exersaucer, play mat
